Pakistani PM Gilani vows to restore 1973 constitution to its original form

Islamabad : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday vowed to restore the 1973 Constitution to its original form which would help in securing the rights of an independent judiciary and free press. He was talking to a six-member bi-partisan US Congressional delegation which called on him here at the Prime Minister House this afternoon.

While briefing the US Congress delegation on Pakistan’s Presidential elections, the Prime Minister said that with the election of Asif Ali Zardari as President of Pakistan with overwhelming majority, the democratic process in the country had been completed.

The delegation included Congressman Jim Cooper, Democrat Tennessee, Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congresswoman Nancy Boyda, Democrat

Kansas, Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Thomas Petri, Republican Wisconsin, Member of the House Committee on Education and Labour, Congressman Jon Porter, Republican Nevada, Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Congressman Dave Reichert, Republican Washington, Member of House Homeland Security Committee.

US Ambassador Ms. Anne W Patterson was also present in the meeting.
