BSP woman worker alleges rape attempt by party MLA

By IANS,

Lucknow : A member of the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) women volunteer force (WVF) in Uttar Pradesh has alleged that a legislator of the party tried to rape her, officials said Tuesday.

Gayatri Gautam, who heads the WVF’s unit in Basti district, 250 km from here, has submitted a written complaint against Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary, the BSP MLA from Ramnagar in the same district.

“The woman has registered a complaint against BSP MLA Chaudhary, and a police team has been formed to investigate the matter,” Laxmi Narayan, the Basti superintendent of police, told IANS on phone.

The woman alleged that the legislator called her to his residence Aug 14 to discuss Lok Sabha poll strategies and tried to rape her, he added.

Gautam, talking to media persons in Basti Tuesday, also claimed that she reported the matter to senior office bearers of the party and approached the police after her complaint went unnoticed.

“Legislator Chaudhary also met me today and claimed that the complaint is a conspiracy to defame him. The matter is being investigated and no FIR has been registered as yet,” Narayan said.
