Ludhiana : Six kilograms of heroin was recovered from a consignment of religious books and compact discs (CDs) near here, the police said.
The seizure was made on a highway near Ludhiana. The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials told IANS that the consignment was being sent in a van to Delhi from where it was to be couriered to Canada.
Following the recovery of the drugs, the DRI officials in Amritsar and Ludhiana raided the premises of the publishing house, Chattar Singh-Jiwan Singh.
DRI joint director Dheeraj Rastogi said that the consignment included 48 packets containing 100 grams of heroin each.
“The consignment was being sent to Delhi through courier and contained religious books and CDs,” he said.
DRI officials said that the publishers were being questioned. One person, Vicky, was arrested by the officials from industrial town of Phagwara, 35 km from here.
The publishing house owners denied any involvement in the case.
