Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the blast took place on the railway track close to the Kelaniya railway bridge, located about eight km north of Colombo around 7.30 p.m.

“About one feet of railway track was damaged in the blast near the Black Bridge area, but there was no damage to the human lives,” Nanayakkara said, adding the police was conducting extensive investigation to find out the elements and the motive behind these minor blasts.

This is the second blast in two days targeting the railway lines outside Colombo.

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded Wednesday evening on coastal railway line just 10 km south of Colombo.
