Kolkata : Auto major Tata Motors Thursday denied it has asked its vendors in West Bengal to send components for its Nano small car to its Pune facility.
The denial came amid talks that Tata Motors, which is scheduled to roll out the world’s chapest car next month, has asked vendors at its Singur plant in West Bengal to despatch components and spare parts for 200 vehicles to its Pune facility to meet the rollout deadline.
The company denied taking any such decision.
“We have not made any such announcement, we have not taken any such decision, we have not said any such thing,” a company spokesperson told IANS.
Tata Motors officially suspended operations at its Singur facility Sep 2 after its workers were threatened by protestors demanding that the land acquired from farmers unwilling to part with their holdings be returned.
Last month, it had lost four back-to-back mandays.
A four-member team formed to study the contentious land acquisition issue held its second round of deliberations Thursday, with one of the farmers’ representatives describing the talks as “cordial”.
The team Wednesday visited the plant site in Singur, about 40 km from Kolkata, to assess the vacant plots lying unused in the project area.
“During our visit we have got an idea about the vacant plots. We exchanged views with representatives of the state government,” said committee member and Singur legislator Rabindranath Bhattacharya of the Trinamool Congress.
The panel was formed following a truce reached Sep 7 between the state government and the Trinamool Congress, the opposition party leading the protest against the land acquisition.
Tata Motors has said the agreement lacked clarity – and refused to resume operations.
