Three militants killed by army in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu : At least three militants were killed in a gunbattle with army personnel in a remote mountainous part of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. S.G. Goswami told IANS: “We obtained information about the movement of a group of militants in the Churuwan forests and cordoned off the area to catch them.

“Contact was established with the militants early this morning. Three militants were killed after an hour long gunbattle. They were identified as activists of the Harkatul Jihad-e-Islami (HUJI) .”

Two of the militants were identified as Saifullah and Akbar. The identity of the third was yet to be established.

“The search operation is still going on as we suspect there are more militants,” said Goswami.
