Jamia to hold essay contest on freedom fighters

New Delhi: The Outreach Programme of Jamia Millia Islamia will conduct an All-India Essay Competition in English on The Role of Early Leaders of the National Freedom Movement vis-a-vis: (a) Hakim Ajmal Khan, (b) Maulana Mahmud Hasan: or (c) Dr M A Ansari.

Contestants may choose the role of any one of the above personalities as their topic. The word length of the essays must be between 4000-5000 words. The contest is open to both students (including research scholars) and non-students. In fact, any citizen of India up to 25 years of age can take part in this competition. All entries must be accompanied by a duly-attested high school certificate showing date of birth.

The winners will be given cash prizes: (a) First Prize: Rs 15,000/- (b) Second Prize: Rs 12,000/- (c) Third Prize: Rs 10,000. Besides, three consolation prizes of Rs 5000/- each will also be given.

All entries must reach the Office of the Media Coordinator by ordinary post by 1st November 2008. The entries will be screened by members of the Editorial Board of the University journal, Third Frame and judged by an eminent writer. The First-prize winning essay shall be published in Third Frame. The Results shall be announced by end of December 2008.
