Hyderabad: The veteran politician and president of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Salahuddin Owaisi has been admitted to a city hospital in a critical condition and was kept on ventilator as he was having difficulty in breathing.
The Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was among the host of politicians and prominent personalities who visited the Care Hospital to inquire about Owaisi’s health. His eldest son and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owiaisi said that a team of doctors headed by renowned cardiologist Dr. B Somaraju was treating him.
“Mr. Owaisi is on ventilator but all vital organs are functioning normally”, a source at the hospital said. Salahuddin Owaisi had suffered a heart attack in 2000 but since then he did not have any major medial problem.
Salahuddin Owaisi, known as Salar-e-Millat (leader of Muslim community) had become the president of MIM after his father Abdul Wahed Owaisi passed away in 1976. The MIM under his leadership grew from strength to strength. It has been winning the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat without any break since 1984 and has five members in the state assembly. The MIM also has presence in several local bodies across the state.
Salahuddin Owaisi held a record of winning Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat six times consecutively.
