Delhi blast toll rises to 24

New Delhi : Three days after serial bombings struck the capital, a 25-year-old man Tuesday succumbed to his injuries taking the number of those killed in the terror attack to 24.

Vikas Anand had suffered severe splinter injuries in Saturday’s bomb blasts and was being treated at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

“He had injuries all over body and was operated upon twice but could not be saved. He died early Tuesday morning,” chief medical officer of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, S.K Sharma, said.

On his parents’ request, the hospital has made arrangements for sending the body to Lucknow for the last rites.

According to officials, while 10 people have been declared dead at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital so far, six have died at Lady Hardinge Hospital, four at Jassa Ram Hospital, two in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and two in Jeevan Mala Hospital in Karol Bagh.

More than 100 people were injured in the series of five explosions Saturday evening that hit crowded markets in Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash-I and the city’s central business district Connaught Place.

A group calling itself the Indian Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the bombings.
