OIC Chief Participates In UN General Assembly Session

Jeddah : The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, will leave here later Tuesday for New York, to take part in the 63rd Session of the UN General Assembly, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Secretary General will meet with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon. Discussions between the two officials are expected to revolve around the prospects of cooperation in various fields between the OIC and the UN. He will also attend the Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers.

Ihsanoglu’s meetings agenda while in New York includes meetings with the heads of the delegations of Senegal and Uganda with the objective of studying and evaluating the outcome of the implementation of adopted resolutions since the 11th Islamic Summit held in Dakar, Senegal, and the 35th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Kampala, Uganda.

In addition to the meeting to be convened by the OIC Committee on Palestine, meetings by the Contact Groups on Iraq, Sierra Leone, Jammu and Kashmir and Somalia will also be held, according to a press release of the OIC.

On the sidelines of the 63rd Session of the General Assembly, the Secretary General will hold meetings with a number of heads of state and government and foreign ministers participating in the General Assembly Session in order to discuss issues of common concern. In this context, the Annual OIC-EU Troika Coordination Meeting will be held.

It should be noted that Ihsanoglu will deliver lectures at a number of universities and research centers, notably Columbia and New York Universities. He will also hold a number of press conferences and interviews.
