Patna : A speeding bus ploughed into a crowd of people watching a Hindi movie on television by a roadside in Bihar, killing 14 and seriously injuring a dozen, the police said Thursday.
Sitamarhi District Magistrate Vijay Kumar said the accident occurred Wednesday night in Bathnaha village, about 160 km from here.
Twelve people were crushed to death on the spot and two succumbed to their injuries in a hospital, the police said. The bus driver and conductor fled the spot.
Kumar said that 11 seriously injured were taken to a government hospital in Muzaffarpur district. About half a dozen other injured were admitted in a private nursing home in Sitamarhi.
Hundreds of villagers later blocked roads and demanded compensation to the victims’ families.
