New Delhi : Home Minister Shivraj Patil Friday chaired a meet to review the progress made on moves to strengthen the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and special branches in the states in the wake of the recent terror attacks in the country.
Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Intelligence Bureau director P.C. Haldar and Special Secretary (internal security) M.L. Kumawat attended the meeting that lasted one-and-a-half hours.
Last week, the home ministry had sanctioned 7,612 new posts and 130 additional police vans to the Delhi Police. It also promised to sanction close circuit cameras in 58 more markets and 27 border check posts. Over 2,000 posts were also sanctioned in the Intelligence Bureau.
Patil would be chairing a meeting of the northern zonal council in Shimla Monday, said ministry spokesperson Onkar Kedia.
“The issues to be discussed at the meeting include internal security, police modernization, communal harmony and disaster management,” he said.
The meet is likely to be attended by the chief ministers of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Chandigarh administrator. The last meeting was held in October 2005 in Shimla.
