Islamabad : Pakistan Friday called for immediate resumption of dialogue with India which has been suspended due to last year’s terror attacks in Mumbai.
“Pakistan has consistently maintained that instead of indulging in a blame game, both sides should, without further delay, resume the Composite Dialogue process,” foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said in a statement.
India had suspended composite dialogue with Pakistan after the November 26-29 Mumbai attacks that killed more than 170 people.
Responding to a question regarding US President Barack Obama’s suggestion for “effective dialogue” between Pakistan and India, Basit said “we cannot agree more”.
The spokesman hoped the US and other friends of Pakistan and India will encourage and facilitate this process.
“We also need to address the long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir, which is the core dispute that has bedevilled relations and vitiated the security environment in South Asia,” Basit said.
“It has always been Pakistan’s position that all long-standing issues between our two countries should be resolved through a constructive and result-oriented dialogue,” the spokesman said.
