Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia`s new prime minister, Najib Tun Razak, plans to visit Indonesia this month, Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Dai Bachtiar said here on Saturday.
He said Malaysian Foreign Minister Rais Yatim called him Saturday morning to tell about Prime Minister Najib`s plan.
“This morning Minister Rais Yatim called me to tell me about PM Najib`s plan to visit Indonesia this month. He asked for a suggestion about the right date for the visit,” Dai said after the inauguration of election monitoring committees in three foreign countries.
Asked if Indonesia would be the first country PM Najib would visit as the new sixth Malaysian prime minister, Dai said he did not know. “He just told me about Najib`s plan and asked what would be a suitable date for the visit,” Dai said.
Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla meanwhile had called Dai asking about PM Najib`s programs that he could attend as he wished to congratulate him personally upon his inauguration as the new Malaysian prime minister.
Asked about Malaysia`s policy towards Indonesia under PM Najib, Dai said that it would not change because Najib and former prime minister Abdullah Badawi were both from the United Malay National Organization (UMNO).
“As they are from the same organization UMNO, Malaysia`s policy will not change. What may change is possibly only the style of leadership,” he said.
Regarding bilateral issues needing priority Dai said that the results of the Indonesia-Malaysia Eminent Person Group meeting had already clearly shown problems and measures that needed to be taken by the two countries with regard to improving their relations.
“The result of the EPG meeting was good with regard to settling political, border, economic, cultural and manpower problems. What the two countries need is just implementing it,” he said.
