“I was little surprised with the news. Even a television channel anchor telephoned me to seek my reaction when I was shooting in Chennai for my Tamil film. The fact is that I am still a film actor and have not yet joined any political party. It is a fact that my family has political roots, but I am not yet ready for politics,” said Ramya, who is also popular in Tamil films.

There were reports that Ramya would contest election as Congress party’s candidate from Karnataka’s Mandya constituency. Now her colleague Ambareesh is contesting from the same seat.

“I won’t not be able to tell you what will happen to me in future. But right now I am concentrating on my films,” said Ramya, who is one of the highest paid Kannada actresses.

Ramya is related to former Karnataka chief minister and former Maharashtra governor S.M. Krishna and hails from Mandya district.
