“On April 4, we sent a letter to the Election Commission and Home Minister P. Chidambaram, requesting them to make it mandatory to hoist the national flag and play the national anthem before voting starts,” Pinaki Roy, founder secretary of the Institution for National Amity (INA), told IANS.

“The idea is to make the voters appreciate democracy and the sacrifice of those who fought for our country’s freedom. The elections take place to strengthen the democracy of country by choosing suitable leaders,” Roy added.

The INA wants the presiding officer to hoist the national flag in the presence of poll officials, security personnel, members of political parties and voters.
