Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government’s alleged steps targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party will only help the party perform better in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra said here Thursday.
“The Mayawati government is making all efforts to push us back – be it the action on our Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi or cancelling our rallies. This negative approach of the state government will help us win more seats,” Mishra told reporters.
Charging Varun Gandhi under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) has opened voters’ eyes, he added.
“The government has also denied permission to (BJP leaders) L.K. Advani and Narendra Modi to hold rallies in Gonda and Balrampur but these atrocities of Mayawati will go in our favour,” Mishra said.
Mishra termed Mayawati’s comment on the Election Commission as dangerous.
Mayawati Wednesday accused the poll panel of favouring opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, after the commission ordered the removal of the state’s principal home secretary Fateh Bahadur Singh.
“It was just to tease the Election Commission that she immediately made Singh her principal secretary,” Mishra alleged.
