Bhopal : Narendra Singh Tomar, president of the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was Sunday arrested on the charge of violating the model code of conduct, police said.
Tomar and BJP national secretary Prabhat Jha had undertaken a ‘rail yatra’ March 22 to demand conversion of the narrow gauge line between Gwalior and Sheopur into a broad gauge line and had also addressed party workers at stations en route.
Following a Congress complaint, the Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case against them April 6 and a probe was conducted.
“Finding Tomar and Jha guilty of violation of the model code of conduct, Tomar was today arrested in Gwalior,” GRP superintendent of police G.K. Pathak said here Sunday evening.
Tomar, who is contesting Lok Sabha polls from the Morena constituency, was however released on bail immediately after the arrest, said Pathak.
