Mumbai : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said here Monday that India needs a “wise and experienced” leadership that will understand modern day challenges and not divide the country on the basis of religion, caste and region.
Addressing the media, Manmohan Singh said the current global scenario has changed drastically and the challenges before the country have also changed.
“We need a leadership that can understand these challenges and exploit them to secure a better future for our young generations. We do not need those who put Indians against Indians, are bogged down by outdated ideologies and continue to live in the past,” he said.
The prime minister pointed out that development has been the hallmark of the Congress whenever it has been in power.
“What was the growth rate when the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) was in power? Now it’s close to nine percent. Their policies of divide and exclusions hurt and disturbed the growth process and divided the country. Developmental activities took place only under the Congress,” he asserted.
