New Delhi : Delhi seems to be heading for a scorching summer. With the temperature already hovering around 40 degrees Celsius Tuesday, three notches above normal, weather officials predicted more heat in the coming days.
The temperature touched 40.2 degrees Celsius at 4.00 p.m. Tuesday. The meteorological office said the temperature was likely to increase and touch 42 degrees in the coming few days.
“Since the time between the sun rise and set has expanded, the daytime heating is higher. The hot south westerly winds are further heating up the area,” an official told IANS.
With no rain expected at least next week, and no sign of relief, Delhites will have to brace themselves for more sweltering days, the official said.
“Adding to this the westerlies approaching from Jammu and Kashmir are preceded by a spate of hot weather – so that too is contributing to the sudden heat,” he added.
“It was so hot ! I was feeling guidy and suffocated – the hot wind was like the loo and sucked all the energy out! It’s just the starting of summer. What will May and June – the hottest months – be like?” pondered Shivani Sharma, a college student.
Anushka Mehra, a corporate executive said: “I was travelling in an air conditioned car throughout the day for meetings! But the heat still got to me – Today is really bad. I felt miserable and sick.”
