New Delhi : A Delhi Police constable and his wife allegedly tried to commit suicide Wednesday by consuming poison at their northwest Delhi home, police said, adding that the couple was depressed as their three children were suffering from chickenpox.
Constable Dharmender Kumar, posted with the security establishment of Delhi Police, his wife, son Aman, 6, and daughters Bhavna, 4, and Mansi, 3, were found unconscious near the Bhoga Mod temple in Bawana area of Narela this afternoon, police said.
They were admitted to the Maharishi Valmiki Hospital, where their condition was stated to be serious late in the evening.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) Atul Katiyar said the family might have attempted suicide as all the three children had been undergoing treatment for chickenpox for the last few months and both the parents were depressed about it.
Police said it appeared that the family had come to visit the temple after consuming some poisonous substance. However, no suicide note was recovered from them.
“We have recovered a bottle of poisonous substance from Dharmender’s pocket. But no suicide note was recovered from them,” said an investigating officer.
