Amritsar : At least two people were killed and two others were injured here when a portion of the printing press building where the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, is printed collapsed Wednesday.
The accident took place when a big concrete slab of the first floor of the building, owned by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), collapsed suddenly.
The victims, identified as Sahib Singh and Happy, were performing voluntary service at the newly built area when the concrete slab crashed on them.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.
The construction work of the new building was being carried out by a Sikh voluntary (Kar Sewa) organisation.
SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh told the media that police were investigating the accident and have registered a case.
The Guru Granth Sahib is officially published by the SGPC alone at its own printing press here. The holy book is then sent to various Gurdwaras and individuals. The holy book is sent not only across the country but also to several other countries.
