“Why is Advani trying to put the blame regarding the Kandahar plane hijack episode on Atal Bihari Vajpayee and on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and why is he trying to distance himself from that decision?” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi pointedly asked while addressing a press conference here.

“Is it the sign of a strong or ‘mazboot’ leader who leads from the front? Or one who tries to dishonestly shift the blame on to his own party and his own leaders to try to avoid tainting himself?” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

Singhvi also asked: “How can a person who runs away from journalists prove to be a strong leader or deal with terrorists?” He was apparently referring to a television broadcast when Advani walked out half way after facing uncomfortable questions.

Referring to the BJP manifesto, Singhvi called it a ‘manifesto of omissions’ and questioned the party’s stand on social and economic policies such as the rural employment guarantee scheme, agricultural loan waiver and anti-terror laws.
