Lucknow : Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi Friday exhorted the people of Uttar Pradesh to seek an account of expenditure of central funds from the Mayawati government.
“The state government is not using properly the funds being released by the central government. So, you must ask the state government where it has spent the central funds meant for carrying out developmental schemes in the state,” she said, addressing the public meeting for Jagdambika Pal, the party’s Lok Sabha candidate for the Domariaganj seat in Siddharthnagar district.
Owing to the lackadaisical approach of the UP government, development in the state has come to a standstill, she said, adding the state government is least bothered about creating jobs for youths and improving the social and economic conditions of weavers.
She appealed to the public to give Congress party a second term in the centre so that developmental schemes initiated by the Congress-led UPA government can be taken up at a larger scale.
“If you give our party a second term, we would be in a position take our developmental schemes on a larger scale to help people across the country,” Gandhi said.
Siddharthnagar is some 350 km from Lucknow.
