Health organisations join to address premature, stillbirth

New Delhi : With over three billion stillbirths and a billion premature deliveries reported around the world every year, global health organisations Tuesday came together to address the crises.

In a meeting held at Seattle in the US, Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth (GAPPS) announced a collaborative effort to examine the causes of prematurity and stillbirth and identify and promote effective interventions, a statement released here said.

Other organisations involved in the initiative include – the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Under the collaboration, a conference will be held from May 7 to 10 in Seattle where maternal, newborn and child health leaders will raise awareness of this immense global health burden and propose a roadmap for future research efforts.
