Jhappi only for Mayawati, pappi for public, says Sanjay Dutt

By IANS,

Lucknow : Undeterred by two obscenity complaints filed against him for offering to give “jadoo ki jhappi” and “pappi” (magical hug and kiss) to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Bollywood star turned-politician Sanjay Dutt said Thursday he has reserved the “pappi” for the people and will only give a “jhappi” to “sister” Mayawati.

“I will give my sister Mayawati jadu ki jhappi (magical hug), while the pappi (kiss) would be reserved for the public,” Dutt said at a public meeting in Kanpur Thursday.

“To counter the anger of Mayawati, I will give her only hugs along with flowers. The more angry she gets, the more hugs she would receive from me,” he added.

Two First Information Reports (FIRs) for using “objectionable words” are registered against Dutt. The FIRs are lodged at the police stations in Pratapgarh and Barabanki districts under Section 294 (obscene act and songs) and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Dutt Wednesday tendered an apology to the district administration of Pratapgarh, saying his comments were not aimed to insult Mayawati, but to “strengthen the brother-sister bond” between him and the chief minister.

Dutt had first made the remarks during an election rally in Pratapgarh district last week. He had reportedly said: “Main Mayawatiji ko jaadu ki jhappi aur pappi dono doonga (I will give both a hug and a kiss to Mayawati).”

Dutt made similar comments at an election rally in Tikaitnagar in Barabanki April 19.

He is also embroiled in a case for making alleged communal remarks at an election rally in Mau district.
