New Delhi: With growing appreciation pf Islamic banking and finance system among Indian experts and policy advisors, it is a welcome development that a two-day workshop on ‘Islamic finance and banking’ will be organized on April 25 in Jamia Hamdard’s convention center with the cooperation of Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah.
The Saturday workshop will be organized under joint auspices of Institute of Objective Studies and Islamic Fiqh Academy. Opening will be inaugurated by the mohtamim of Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband Maulana Mohammad Salim and renowned Islamic economist prof. Najatullah Siddiqui will deliver keynote lecture.
A major objective of the workshop is to explore possibilities of starting professional courses about Islamic finance and banking in Indian Madrasas. In his keynote address, prof Najatullah will dwell on how to integrate this course in present syllabus of Islamic Madrasas. A number of leading Muslim intellectuals and Ulema including the principal of Nadwatul Ulema (Lucknow) Maulana Sa’yeedur Rahman Azmi will participate in the workshop.
Program convener Dr. Ausaf Ahmad told: “The workshop carries much significance in backdrop of the need being felt for harmonizing Madrasa syllabus with contemporary requirements” he continues. “As the importance of Islamic finance and banking system is mounting these days, it will be a beneficial task if any leeway is found for inclusion of this subject in Madrasas”he added.
