Congress stands for good governance: Sonia

New Delhi : Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of resorting to communal means to garner votes, Congress president Sonia Gandhi Wednesday appealed people at a rally here to vote for her party for good governance.

“The Congress is the only party which has sought votes on the basis of its policies and programmes it has implemented – not like other parties, which ask for votes by spreading rumours all around and discriminate among people,” Gandhi told the rally at the Ramlila Maidan here.

“There are a lot of incidents going on in our neighbouring countries, which are a matter of concern to us. We have to fight unitedly against terrorism,” she said, alluding to conflicts in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

“The leaders of the BJP, who talk about fighting terrorism, should first search their souls and see what they did during their rule,” she said.

Gandhi also listed achievements of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, especially the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations for government employees.
