One hundred thousand Indians affected by Bihar floods

By KUNA,

New Delhi : Around 100,000 people were affected in the northern state of Bihar in the aftermath of heavy rains, which caused a river to swell and water to breach its embankment, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The situation has turned so serious that the State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered a high-level probe into the breach and called for deployment of National Disaster Response Force personnel.

The river breached its embankment in a stretch of 40-50 metres at Tajpur area in the state, and inundated vast areas and several villages of the district, the report quoted official sources as saying.

Due to the worsening situation, road transport between Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi areas in the state was likely to be affected, as flood waters submerged one of the National Highways passing through the state.
