New Delhi: The Indian mission in Riyadh is seeking details about a massive fire at a workers’ camp at Saudi Arabia’s Khursaniyah, at which many Indians were working. No casualty or injury involving Indians has been confirmed so far.
A counsellor-level officer has been dispatched to the site of the fire, official sources said here Thursday.
Seven people were killed in a fire Sunday at a workers’ camp near a plant being built to process gas from the Khursaniyah oilfield, 500 km from Riyadh.
The oilfield is operated by Athens-based Consolidated Contracting Company for Saudi Aramco.
The camp houses around 17,000 workers, many of whom are South Asians.
A number of Indians are among the 40 people missing after the accident, about 140 km northwest of Dahran.
The Indian mission at Riyadh and its consulate in Jeddah are trying to ascertain the details from the authorities. The Saudi police are investigating the incident.
