Police believe Noordin was the mastermind behind bomb attacks on two Jakarta luxury hotels last month, which killed nine people including two suicide bombers.

A TV One reporter said, citing police sources at the scene, Noordin was confirmed to be among those killed in a raid on a house in a remote village in Temanggung district.

Police and up to four militants had been engaged in an armed stand-off since Friday evening.

A police spokesman could not be reached immediately for confirmation.
