Fiat India to focus on overseas markets

New Delhi: Fiat India has set an ambitious target of exporting 7,000 cars this fiscal, up from just 800 in 2008-09.

The company Wednesday said in a statement that it would focus more on South Asian countries as well as major automobile markets like South Africa to meet the target.

“The company targets to export 7,000 units of Fiat’s India manufactured cars this year,” it said, adding: “As a first step, we have exported a batch of Fiat Linea to South Africa.”

“The export of the Linea to South Africa is an integral part of our endeavour to reach out to international markets and establish our presence beyond India,” said Rajeev Kapoor, chief executive of Fiat India.

Earlier, Fiat had exported Palio to South Africa.
