Court gives road accident victim’s family Rs.2.3 mn

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Monday awarded a compensation of Rs.2.3 million to the family of a man killed in a road accident in 1998.

Ashok Pant, who was a chef working with the Taj Group of Hotels in Japan, was travelling in an autorickshaw with his wife when an air force vehicle hit them Sep 9, 1998.

Ashok succumbed to injuries Sep 17, 1998, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Justice J.R. Midha enhanced a lower court’s compensation of Rs.1 million to Rs. 2.3 million and said: “The future prospects of the deceased should be taken into consideration while assessing compensation for the family.”

Challenging the lower court’s order, the central government had filed an appeal.
