New Delhi : The Supreme Court Thursday issued fresh contempt notices to three women who are already facing contempt proceedings before it for hurling a slipper at an apex court judge early this year.
A bench of Justice Altmas Kabir, currently conducting the contempt proceedings against Annette Kottian, Pavitra Murli and Savita Parekh, issued fresh contempt notices to them for their unruly and disparaging conduct before the judges and for raising a fresh set of demands.
The demands included impeachment of President Pratibha Patil and immediate arrest of Attorney General Goolam E. Vahanavati. They also wanted a direction to the government to appoint members of their Mumbai-based Boss music school as advisors and rule the country only as per their advice.
The Supreme Court since May 5 had been compassionately hearing the trio. Despite facing contempt charges for throwing a slipper at Justice Arijit Pasayat (since retired) March 20 this year, the women demanded death penalty for some judges.
The bench, which also included Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice R.M. Lodha, had been giving them a patient hearing even after the attorney general expressed his reservation against the apex court’s magnanimity to the women, who often showed signs of being paranoid, trusting none and suspecting one and all, including individuals and institutions.
During the court proceedings Thursday, the women had repeated verbal duels with judges, who appeared to be at their wit’s end in controlling their verbal assault.
