Swine flu patient recovers by time test results come

By IANS,

Bhopal : A suspected swine flu patient in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city had recovered on his own by the time his sample report, indicating he had tested positive, was received from New Delhi, officials said Sunday.

According to Indore District Collector Rakesh Shrivastava, a 32-year-old man was suspected to have swine flu and his sample was sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), (earlier the National Institute of Disease Control) Aug 12 and the results were received Saturday.

However, the man had recovered by the time, he added.

Meanwhile, health department officials tested his wife and two children aged five and three, and found them in good health.

Though the district administration is keeping the patient’s identity under wraps lest it may cause panic, M.K.Saraswat, the dean of the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, said: “If the patient detected is currently enjoying good health, there is no need to panic.”

“According to preventive social medicine findings, 50 per cent of the patients developed no symptoms. About 49.8 per cent developed symptoms but got cured on their own with normal medications and only 0.2 per cent patients require serious medical intervention.”

Indore had come under the susceptible zone once the outbreak occurred in Mumbai and Pune. Till date, 16 suspected samples from Indore have been sent for tests to the NCDC and the district officials have taken precautions since around 1000-1200 people commute between Pune and Indore daily.
