Chandigarh : The police here have adopted modern investigation techniques and solved many important cases faster in the last two years, a senior officer said Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police S.S. Srivastava said: “In the last two years, modern techniques and scientific procedures have become an integral part of our investigations. This has helped us in solving many important cases in less time.”
“We have taken many initiatives in this direction like installation of CCTV cameras in police stations, GPS (global positioning system) system in PCR (police control room) vehicles, hi-tech computer lab, regular exposure of our cops to latest software and technologies, setting up of a fingerprint bureau, cyber crime cell and community policing,” he added.
Srivastava said the conviction rate has also gone up with the use of modern technology.
According to police records, there were 732 convictions and 585 acquittals in the first six months (January-June) of 2009 against 704 convictions and 457 acquittals in the corresponding period last year.
In 2008, police managed to solve eight complicated cases, Srivastava said, including the rape of a German tourist and the case of 49 missing passports.
