Taipei : Taiwanese officials said Tuesday 461 people have been killed and 192 still missing after typhoon Morakot devastated the country Aug 8.
It was the worst typhoon to hit the island nation in 50 years, Taiwan disaster control centre said.
Most of the casualties were reported from Kaohsiung County where 392 people were killed, it said.
About $440 million worth of properties in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors alone were lost, according to a report released by the government.
