Government launches 15-day online RTI course

New Delhi : Aimed at creating awareness about the Right to Information (RTI) among citizens and government officers, the central government is starting a 15-day online certificate course on the RTI Act on a pilot project basis.

The course by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions will start next month.

“The 15-day course will be taken by various stakeholders on both the demand and supply sides of the RTI implementation regime. The first (pilot batch) course would begin on the 7th of next month,” said an official statement.

The course would be conducted in in association with the Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad.

“The online certificate course is aimed at public information officers (PIOs), assistant public information officers (APIOs), appellate authorities, officials assisting the above designated officers or other public officials, citizens, representatives of civil society organisations (including media organisations) or any other person who could be a direct/indirect stakeholder,” the statement added.

One of the main objectives of the course is to reach out to those who have not had an opportunity to participate in any training or sensitization initiatives on the RTI Act 2005.
