Support to UPA not for shielding our leaders: Amar Singh

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Samajwadi Party was not supporting the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to get relief for its leaders from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in various cases, party general secretary Amar Singh said Saturday.

“It would be wrong to say that we decided to lend support to the UPA government last year to protect our leaders in CBI cases,” Singh told reporters from Singapore via tele-conferencing.

Singh, who is convalescing after a kidney transplant, said: “We did that in national interest. We are supporting the UPA government as we don’t want to be branded as impulsive allies, somebody who is in one day and out the other day.”

He also said that his party was supporting the government because it had no other option.
