The Amethi MP briefly interacted with the children of Heritage Public School, Sangrur, and asked them about their ambitions in life and their views on joining politics.

Gandhi was on his way out of parliament when he saw a group of students standing close to the main entrance. The Congress MP from Sangrur, Vijay Inder Singla, was also there along with his wife. Gandhi stepped out of his car and went across to meet the children, who were thrilled at the chance encounter with the young leader.

Gandhi also posed for photographs with the children, who were dressed neatly in their pale yellow uniforms.

“He asked us what was our career ambition in life and if we wanted to join politics,” Bhavanpreet Kaur, a student, told IANS. “We told him that we would join politics if we get a chance.”

The children said they were thrilled at the encounter.

“I felt very good,” said Jyoti Gupta, a student who was standing close to Gandhi during the meeting. “He asked me about my rank in the class. He also asked the name of the Lok Sabha speaker.”

The children had gone to parliament to watch the proceedings of Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. Most of the students were from Class 10 while some were also school toppers from junior classes.

Rahul Gandhi, who is in charge of the Youth Congress, has been visiting university campuses across the country to interact with young voters. He has also gone to schools and freely mixed with students.
