Maharashtra take first innings lead against UP

New Delhi: Maharashtra fought back in their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Uttar Pradesh, bowling them out for 208 in their first innings and taking a lead of 84 runs at Pune.

After being shot out for 292 in the first innings, Maharashtra made a strong comeback with left-arm spinner Kiran Adhav claiming five for 24. Left-arm pacer Samad Fallah took three wickets.

Maharashtra then reached 102/2 at stumps on the second day Wednesday, increasing their overall lead to 186 runs.

At Mohali, Manpreet Gony’s match haul of 10 wickets has brought Punjab close to victory against Himachal Pradesh.

After baing packed off for 197 in the first innings, Himachal Pradesh fought their way back into the match, bowling out the hosts for 186. Vikramjeet Malik claimed five for 68.

But Gony, who took five wickets in the first innings, bowled a deadly spell (five for 21) that saw Himachal Pradesh surrender for just 82 in the second innings.

Punjab now need 92 runs to register a sensational victory inside three days.

At Vadodara, Karnataka pacers R. Vinay Kumar (3-23) and Abhimanyu Mithun (3-52) ran through the Baroda batting line-up, leaving them at 137/9.

Karnataka piled up a mammoth 488 in the first innings with Manish Pandey scoring a century. Ganesh Satish made 94.

Vinay Kumar and Mithun, who have been in hot form this season, got good purchase from the wicket to see Karnataka to a strong position.
