New Delhi: Three students of a government school here suffered serious injuries when they were thrashed Wednesday by another group of students, police said.
Several teachers also received minor injuries in the incident in a government school in Timarpur area of north Delhi when they tried to intervene in the matter.
“The incident took place Wednesday morning. The victims, all class XI students, were beaten by a group of around eight students at the school campus. The students who thrashed the trio were suspended from the same school around a month ago,” said a senior police official.
“The trio were mercilessly beaten with iron rods and wooden sticks for nearly ten minutes till the teachers intervened. Several teachers also suffered minor injuries while they were trying to save the victims,” the official added.
“The accused then set a motorcycle, standing in the campus, on fire. After this, they all fled from the spot. The victims were taken to Sushtruta Trauma Centre near Kashmere Gate area. They have suffered multiple fractures and are currently undergoing treatment,” the official further said.
The fight reportedly began two days ago when one of the victims was said to have passed comments on a class XII girl of his school.
“After that, a small fight had taken place over this two days ago. Today’s incident seems to be an extension of that. A case has been registered in this regard. Several of the accused students have been identified. But they are all juveniles. We will take action very soon,” the police added.
