Dhaka : Trade between Bangladesh and India was hit Thursday at Petrapole, a border town and the principal land port in India’s West Bengal state, due to a transport strike enforced by the state’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist.
Hundreds of goods-laden trucks were stranded on both sides of the land port due to the strike, Star Online said.
Customs Assistant Commissioner of Petrapole Land Port Bireswar Pal said the party activists called the transport strike in the Bongaon region to protest the killing of a labour leader.
Some activists demonstrated at Petrapole Land Port Thursday morning and forced suspension of the trans-border trading, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) reported.
