Four girls part of India’s official Copenhagen delegation

New Delhi : Four girls will be part of the Indian delegation going for the Copenhagen Climate Summit as the only official youth delegates, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh announced Friday.

Ramsha Sajid, 16, and Edya Dubey, 17, of the Carmel Convent Senior Secondary in Bhopal, Ruchika Pokhriyal, 19, of Delhi University’s Acharya Narendra Dev College, and Deeksha Singh, 20, of the Patna’s Women’s College were winners of the essay competition conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)and will now be participating in the conference at Copenhagen Dec 6-12.

“We need to enthuse the younger generation into wildlife and forest conservation for environmental protection,” the minister said.

“We are the only country taking youngsters as part of the official delegation. Others who are going are either supported by the non-governmental organisations or the civil society,” Ramesh added.

“We, the next generation, have much more at stake in this fight against climate change and we need to stand together and refused to get ignored. We have to start initiatives like each one teach and commit ourselves to simple think like refill the pen,” Ramsha said on the occasion.
