Kolkata: President Pratibha Patil will address the concluding function of Indian National Science Academy’s (INSA) platinum jubilee year celebrations at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) here Monday, an official said Sunday.
Patil, on a two-day visit to the city, is also scheduled to inaugurate the newly-installed solar photo voltaic power project at Raj Bhavan Monday evening. She will leave for New Delhi Tuesday.
The celebrations of INSA’s platinum jubilee year were inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in January.
SINP director Milan K. Sanyal said, “Since Meghnad Saha, after whom SINP is named, was the first Indian president of the INSA 1937-38, it has been decided by the authorities that the concluding function would be held at SINP during Dec 7-10 this year.”
“The three-day event will focus on issues like climate change, energy, education, water resources and nutrition security. A document on nutrition security will also be released tomorrow (Monday) during the function,” Sanyal told reporters.
However, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would not be able to present on the occasion, despite protocol that he and the governor should accompany the president during any government programme.
“Since Bhattacharjee is not coming, he has appointed his cabinet colleague Debesh Das as the minister-in-waiting (on the president),” Sanyal said.
