Indian sports persons to speak their mind at Turf 2009

New Delhi: India’s sports stars both former and current will speak their minds on the huge potential of the domestic sports market at a two-day FICCI Global Summit – Turf 2009 – that starts here Dec 15.

The mega event will be inaugurated by Sports Minister M.S. Gill and will see the presence of eminent sporting personalities like Beijing games bronze medallist Vijender Singh, former cricket captain Kapil Dev, multiple Grand Slam winner Mahesh Bhupathi, All England champion Pulella Gopichand and Olympian hockey player Viren Rasquinha.

Atul Singh, Chairman, FICCI Sports Committee and President, Coca Cola India, Monday told reporters: “According to FICCI estimates, there is a huge untapped sponsorship market estimated at $300 million a year and TV rights market worth $400 million a year, apart from the opportunities arising out of the massive demand of sport infrastructure and management.”

The summit will also see the presence of prominent athletes from Ethiopia, international coaches, industry leaders with interest in sports and prominent sports journalists, amongst many national and international speakers.

For the event, Britain is the partner country and Ethiopia, the focus country. The event is also attracting business delegations from other countries who will participate in structured seminars and panel discussions with eminent overseas and Indian speakers.
