Lok Sabha concerned over KCR’s health

New Delhi : The Lok Sabha Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating health of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader and MP K. Chandrasekhara Rao, who has been on a fast-unto-death for 11 days demanding a separate Telangana state.

Speaking on behalf of the government, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy appealed to Rao to end the fast.

The house, which was united in appealing to Rao to break the fast, was divided over his demand for a separate state of Telangana.

In her message, Speaker Meira Kumar said Rao, popularly known as KCR, was “unwell” and “we all are concerned about his health”.

The Telangana leader represents the Mahabubnagar parliamentary constituency of Andhra Pradesh.

Extending his whole-hearted support for a Telangana state, Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani asked the central government to “immediately intervene” to solve the issue.

“He (Rao) is an honourable member of this house. His health is rapidly deteriorating. The government should immediately intervene as Telangana issue is important,” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.

Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy added that the “question of breaking the fast” was important.

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sharad Yadav said the situation was explosive and would become worse if something happened to KCR.

“It is a very explosive situation. The government must intervene.”

Stating that his party supported the demand for a Telangana state, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene to resolve the issue.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Ram Chandra Dome asked the government to convene an all party meeting.

Others who expressed their concern over KCR’s deteriorating health were Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shiv Sena’s Anant Geete, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Dara Singh Chauhan, Trinamool Congress’ Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Biju Janata Dal’s B. Mahtab, Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Jayant Chowdhary and Mirza Mehboob Beg of the National Conference.
