Bhopal : A policeman was shot dead by three assailants in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district Saturday. The three men have been arrested, police said Sunday.
“A head constable was shot dead at the busy Hospital Chouraha of Anjad tehsil in Barwani district Saturday afternoon. All the three miscreants were nabbed when the van in which they were fleeing collided with a bus near Rajpur, around one kilometre from Anjad,” a police officer said.
The three arrested men have been identified as Deepak Kadam, Motilal and Mahesh Rajput. They are all residents of Anjad, around 150 km from Indore. Baseball bats and two revolvers were recovered from the assailants.
The police officer said Deepak Kadam was also involved in a 15-day-old incident in which a businessman was robbed of Rs.100,000 in Anjad.
This was the second such incident in less than a month in Nimar region, in which Barwani falls. Earlier, an Anti-Terror Squad constable was gunned down allegedly by a Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist in Khandwa. No one has been arrested so far in the case.
“Head constable Sajjan Mishra was travelling on his motorcycle when three miscreants came in a van and fired at him. The first bullet missed him and Mishra took shelter inside a nearby building. But the miscreants chased him and fired several times, killing him,” Inspector General (Indore zone) Sanjay Rana told IANS.
