Bangalore: The process of allotting unique identification numbers in the country will begin in Feb 2011, head of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Nandan Nilekeni said here Saturday.
Karnataka is among the three states from where the process will start, Nilekeni told reporters after meeting state Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
“The state government has assured all help to implement the project,” Nilekeni, one of the founders of IT major Infosys Technologies, said.
The 16-digit numbers will be allotted by the UIDAI based on 11 biometrics, including fingerprints and the iris.
The UIDAI would not allot any cards, but only the 16-digit numbers.
