Raipur : Police Sunday booked Chhattisgarh Congress legislator Shakrajit Nayak for demanding money from an industrialist for the forthcoming civic body elections.
“After verifying the written complaint submitted by industrialist Satish Goel, we registered a first information report (complaint) against the legislator,” Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma said.
Nayak, legislator from Raigarh, has been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to criminal intimidation and using undue influence at election.
Sharma said Nayak would be summoned for recording his statement as the police had collected evidence against him.
In his complaint, Goel said the legislator demanded Rs.1 lakh cash for the urban body elections to be held in the district Dec 21 and 23.
Nayak threatened him of dire consequences if he failed to meet the demand, Goel added.
